“It shall come to pass that before they call, I will answer; And while they are still speaking, I will hear.” (Isaiah 65:24 NKJV)
Years ago when I worked at a large church my desk was next to that of a lady whose husband was one of the ministers. Once when she made a call I couldn’t help but overhear how she was leaving a detailed voice mail message for her husband. I wondered why she didn’t just go into his office, but since he was out I reasoned that he might need to have this information when he called in to check his messages.
However, just then I saw her husband come in the front door and step up to her desk as she continued to speak into her phone. After a moment she realized he was there and looked up.
“Oh, hello! I was just leaving you a message,” she told him then she turned back to the phone, “Goodbye!” She said into the receiver and hung up.
It was amusing – she was leaving a message for someone who was already present!
Which is what occurs when I pray then forget God’s ongoing presence and I think I have to fill him in on all the details of my difficulties. But of course not only is God quite familiar with my problem but he has already determined a solution. Like our Scripture says, he hears and provides his ready answers. And all for my benefit and his glory.
Father, help me remember your incomparable constant presence. Amen.
